Hack the Box - Bug Bounty Hunter Path - Up next…
What is Hack the Box, what is Bug Bounty Hunting, and why am I doing this?
Hack the Box is an online platform for security enthusiasts to practice their skills. The ‘box’ is a machine you can remote into and attempt to compromise using cyber security and hacking tools and techniques. They have an Academy with courses. One of these courses is Bug Bounty Hunting. Bug bounty hunting is the practice of finding and reporting vulnerabilities to websites. Companies will put bounties out and these bug hunters will attack their websites, report the findings, and based on the severity of the bug, receive a payment for their work.
Why Bug Bounty Hunting?
I’ve dabbled for years as a cyber security hobbyist. I have laptops, tools, books, etc. I love the subject. I’ve taken some HTB courses, among many others from other platforms. Bug Bounty Hunting is the path I will enroll in and work to finish completely before moving on to other subjects and courses in the cyber security space. The reason for this, is that I can work on this from anywhere. The other paths for the ‘beginner’ level folks are Penetration Testing and SOC analyst. Of these 3, I think the bug bounty skills can be exercised best and most often based on my normal day-to-day life and schedule.
